Could of just put the rear seat down and put the front passenger seat as low as it’d go and tie them all together with a red rag attached to the end of the planks.

I know there’s gotta be something wrong with this, but I’m trying to put my finger on what rule is actually being broken here .
The load appears to be secure, it doesn’t look unstable at all... and it’s not blocking lights, or license plate... How about driver visibility? Is that blocking his mirrors or something? I think h e might be able to see underneath the load enough to change lanes... Oh wait! Does this count as an oversize load ? It’s sticking out quite a ways, but it’s more UP than OUT, so I’m not sure if it really needs red flags or anything.

Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Exhibit 1.

I could be wrong, but always though the rule of thumb was you needed red flags if it stuck out past the vehicle in any direction more than 6" . Well, except maybe up. But it does look like it’s sticking out more than 6" to the sides.

Ok, i
t mus
t depend on
t
he state, then. In my state (
Michigan)
, a 12-inch red flag is required if the
load extends 48" or more past the rear of
the vehicle.

Nobody “needs” safety.

It’s not like anyone uses it most of the time

It’s sticking out a good 2+ feet on either side. Yes, it depends on the state, but most would assume it has to be flagged.
